'Just out of the Run'
Rodger McPhail (b.1953)
Oil on canvas, signed 'R.McPhail' (lower right)

Beautifully depicted are a brace of fresh run adult Atlantic salmon in sun dappled water. They are the future of the river that they were born in and have just entered a deep pool to rest in before continuing on upstream to their spawning grounds. With little effort they can stay here until the urge to move on. They are accompanied by salmon parr, that may have been feeding on aquatic life in the river for two to three years.

Rodger McPhail is a British artist primarily known for his wildlife art. Born in West Houghton, Lancashire, he has established himself as one of the world's most accomplished wildlife artists.

His interest in the natural world was apparent from an early age, leading him to pursue a career that combined his passions for art and wildlife. McPhail's work not only captures the beauty and intricacy of the natural environment but also reflects a deep understanding and respect for wildlife. This has made his art highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

In addition to his wildlife art, McPhail has also been commissioned to create portraits and landscape paintings, showcasing his versatility as an artist. He has exhibited widely, both in the UK and internationally, and his works can be found in numerous private collections and galleries worldwide.
