An Arts and Crafts copper wall sconce attributed to John Pearson, of square shape in embossed copper with hammered and plain surfaces, the centre an oval convex shape with a border of beading, surrounded by four stylised embossed peacocks joined with foliate ornament, against a hammered background, with twin embossed candle holders.
Literature
John Pearson was born in 1859 in Lambeth, London. He worked in the factory of William de Morgan in the 1880s and studied the technique of repousse metalwork. In 1892 he went from London to Newlyn in Cornwall and taught the art at the Newlyn Industrial School, beating copper on lead. He returned to London in 1894 and continued to produce pieces of great individuality and charm.
